Surgical Gastroenterology (also k/a GI Surgery) is a specialized area of surgery that deals with surgical problems of digestive system including stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, liver, pancreas, gall bladder, bile duct and spleen.
The aim of GI Surgery unit is to provide comprehensive treatment for many complex abdominal operations both benign as well as malignant diseases. The department also provides emergency care to trauma patients involving liver, pancreas, spleen and GI tract. Various laparoscopic services are also performed. The main goal is to establish evidence based surgical treatment of Gastro-intestinal and Hepato-Pancreato- Biliary malignancies with curative intent and occasionally palliative management as per need.

After evaluating the symptoms/ signs and diagnostic work up, the patient might be advised for surgical treatment.
